How to Maximize Your Broadband Connection

Connectivity has become essential in everyday business operations. Customer queries need to be answered ASAP. Large files need to be sent to suppliers. Employees need to be updated in real time. All these emphasize the importance of a good broadband connection which could provide quick connecting speeds and fast data transfers for your company to achieve higher productivity.

The good news is that there are a number of ways by which you can optimize your broadband connection. Most of these require only minimal effort from your end but could result in maximum results for your company.

#1 Get a Business-grade Broadband
It’s a myth that broadband plans for business cost more. Broadband plans for business are designed to cater to business needs, for example, higher bandwidths, immediate and dedicated after sales support and relevant add ons. Also, business customers are offered value for money bundles and promotions relevant to business operations.

#2 Determine the correct bandwidth
How your company uses the internet and the number of users you have will determine the type of broadband plan that you should sign up for. If you only use the internet for answering emails and doing social media, for example, 5 mbps might do. Video streaming and video conferencing require at least a 10 mbps connection. Companies that share and upload large files frequently may need a connection of 50 mbps and up. Lastly, we recommend at least a 10 mpbs connection if you have more than 2 users at a given time.

#3 Get the correct add ons
Having the right add-on for your business’ needs is as significant as having the right speed. A static IP, for example, is important if you have your own website and servers or external devices and services which must connect to your network like CCTVs. If you need to regularly upload heavy files, you might need to opt for a symmetric speeds add-on which guarantees equal upload and download speeds versus the normal 30 percent upload speed of the subscribed plan.

#4 Learn to troubleshoot your connection
Sometimes, a simple reset is needed to boost your connection. Make sure you educate yourself on how to troubleshoot your connection. It could save you precious time! Learn more here.

#5 Choose the best position for your router
Make sure that your router is in the best possible position for your office to achieve optimum Wi-Fi coverage. You may be enrolled in the best broadband plan, but if your office features multiple signal obstructions such as concrete walls and many doors, then you may get a weaker connection. Place the router in a centrally located position, free from obstruction, to enjoy a strong connection.

#6 Do a check on other applications
The various programs and applications running on your devices could also affect internet speed. It is advisable, for example, to have the latest browser on your devices as these are faster and more secure. Clear your cache regularly for web pages to load faster. Don’t go for automatic software updates as this could eat into your bandwidth, slowing down your tasks. Opt for manual updates. The same goes for downloaded apps that run in the background. Make sure they don’t open automatically.
