Globe myBusiness Offers Business Solutions to Bank Representatives at RBAP’s 65th National Convention

Last May 21 and 22, the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines held its 65th National Convention. Globe myBusiness was there to speak to the financial institutions about digitizing their operations for the future.

On May 21 and 22, the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP) held its 65th National Convention in SMX Lanang, Davao City. Attended by 474 RBAP members and bank representatives from all over the Philippines, it was a chance for executives and employees in the finance industry to form connections and make new discoveries.

The event’s theme was Leading Onwards to Development & Inclusion, fondly given the hashtag #LODI. To supplement the theme and bolster its partnership with RBAP, Globe myBusiness was at the event to guide rural bankers towards a more tech-savvy future.

With the goal of supporting the financial services sector of the Philippines and helping business owners and stakeholders become more competitive, Globe makes it a point to be present at events that bring these people together. Globe believes that inspiring and empowering business owners is a way to achieve its vision of aiding digitally transformative banks in the age of omni-channel and digital financial services.

Rural banks are a crucial part of the country’s financial sector; thus, in order to help the industry progress, Globe myBusiness partnered with RBAP to reach more bank owners and push products which these executives can make great use of.

Globe myBusiness representatives were present at the event to chat with financial institution owners regarding their business goals and how they intend to achieve them. They were also able to recommend Globe’s various products and business solutions that would make the journey to success easier and more convenient for bankers all over the Philippines.

In addition, Globe Labs and GCash representatives were around to talk digital growth and cashless transactions with each rural bank.

Each day of the event was led by various speakers, who took the stage and talked about developments in the industry. On the first day, the General Membership meeting and election were held to establish the organization’s new officers. The second day was composed of event sponsors discussing what they had to offer for the banks’ development.

Globe myBusiness was featured on the first day, where they discussed their core and non-core solutions that can provide worry-free operations to the many rural banks represented in the room. More than just providing these solutions, Globe also helps take care of the businesses’ operations so entrepreneurs can focus on staying ahead of competition. They bundle their services with dedicated customer support, which allows even the least tech-savvy of business owners to benefit from digital technology.

We spoke to a couple of business owners in the room and discovered what they had to say:

Why is digital technology important?

“Digital technology is very important nowadays because it can enable us to connect to the different areas where we are located, where we can serve,” said Giovanni Gabriento, president of the Rural Bank of Digos, Inc.  “We have to embrace and appreciate technology so that we could be relevant to the society where we operate.”

Meanwhile, Sir Tony Alcasid, president of the Rural Bank of Taal, said, “I think in order for any financial institution to survive and compete, you definitely have to go digital. Rural banks should be able to step up and work out the connectivity between our offices in order to deliver the services that commercial banks are able to.”

How has technology helped your business, and what more can be done to improve?

“Technology has helped us in a way that we could reach out to our clients 24/7,” Giovanni said. “However, the challenge set before us is that most of the members of rural banks are located in far-flung areas where connectivity is low.”

“[Digitalization] has definitely made operations more efficient, [as well as] utilization of staff,” Sir Tony said. “But we still have a long way to go as far as digitizing our services completely. Part of that is also to educate our staff as well as our market, our customers. Although everybody nowadays is into mobile technology, I think our market in the province is still not as tech-savvy as the markets in Manila, so we have a lot of work to do to keep up.”

Why is it so important to be connected?

Giovanni said, “Connectivity plays a vital role in the success of one’s operations, [because] the key to banking is you have to improve to not become irrelevant. […] We have to be prepared for the different challenges we’ll face. One of those challenges is to grab the opportunity [offered by] the financial technology around us. If you won’t embrace or appreciate technology, then you would become irrelevant.”

How can rural banks merge new technology with keeping to their traditional competitive advantage?

“Definitely we have to keep up with new digital technology, but at the same time, we have to preserve our competitive advantage, which is the fact that we have been there a very long time, so we know our markets personally. Our customers are comfortable with us; they know us. I believe that will allow us to survive and compete with commercial banks. But at the same time, we have to step up with technology.”

The event was a rousing success, and Globe myBusiness was able to spread its expertise and present its offers to many more business owners, allowing decision makers in the banking industry, as well as everyone else in the room, to take one step closer to success.
