It’s going to be an abundant Year of the Earth Pig! “It’s a good year to make [new] business, to invest, expand our business,” says feng shui consultant Johnson Chua. Resources will overflow, which is definitely good news for entrepreneurs. However, it’s not just a matter of taking advantage of supply; you have to turn it into profit, too. Johnson shares tips on how to minimize losses and maximize gains for your business this year.

Utilize your network to the fullest.

Finding potential partners, suppliers, and customers? Particularly for entrepreneurs born in the Year of the Tiger, the new year is perfect for expanding your network, and in turn, your business.

Meanwhile, those born in the Year of the Rabbit, Rat, and Horse are more likely to influence others strongly, while those born in the Year of the Monkey are advised to share their creativity to their team and inspire them to do more than their usual tasks.

Set your target.

Define a realistic goal and work your resources around it, says Johnson. Assess the appropriate supplies needed to achieve your target—is it capital, or is it manpower? While resources are plenty this year, focus on your strengths to avoid being a jack of all trades. “Always remember, plans will not be successful if you do not execute it,” notes Johnson.

Explore opportunities in manpower, media, food, and agriculture.

Johnson encourages Earth Pigs to go for service-oriented businesses such as construction. Food, gadgets, advertising, and marketing make for practical ventures for Fire Pigs. Water Pigs should invest in digital projects, while Wood Pigs will find good opportunities in agriculture.

Manage risks.

If you were born in the Year of the Snake, be extra-cautious in making decisions, warns Johnson. Like Sheep, stick to passive or low-risk investments such as getting investment insurance or opening a time-deposit bank account. Buying real estate is wise, too, as long as you stick to properties from reputable developers. Avoid spending your capital in agriculture and fish farms.

If you’re born in the Year of the Dragon, steer clear of conflicts caused by betrayals by always keeping your guard up. On the other hand, you’ll have a higher success rate in business if you’re a Rooster, so don’t shy away from getting involved in new enterprises and closing deals.

Upgrade your business, but make sure to boost your health, too.

Leveling up comes easy for those born in the Year of the Dog, so it’s best to be aggressive in promoting your products and services. Just make sure that working hard doesn’t demand sacrificing your health. Don’t let emotional and mental stresses take a toll in hitting your targets, Johnson advises.

If you were born in the Year of the Ox, take time to assess your decisions. Don’t let your drive to succeed waver. Include de-stressing activities such as regular exercise and meditation in your routine, as these maintain a clearer mind in planning and accomplishing targets towards business success.
