True to its mission of building a better Philippines, Globe Telecom joined hands with the De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) to support research efforts that would enable the country to prepare for a more technologically-advanced way of learning.
Globe and DLS-CSB signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) that would grant funding for two academic researches focusing on digital learning for three years. The deal was built on the premise of changing the landscape of education in the Philippines by enhancing the traditional way of teaching with the use of modern technology.
Michelle Tapia, Head of Strategy, Innovation, and Transformation of Globe myBusiness, and Br. Dennis Magbanua FSC, DLS-CSB President, signed the agreement. They emphasized that technological advancements have significantly changed how people learn, adding that it will be a game-changer in educating generations of Filipinos in the future.
“Globe has always been committed to providing educational institutions with technology-driven solutions meant to promote higher quality teaching and learning. Through the grant, we are looking forward to introducing new innovations that would help schools keep up with the rapidly changing arena of digital and information technology,” Tapia said.
Magbanua, in addition said: “The key to shaping future leaders in the country lies within the tools and the guidance provided by their mentors. We are looking forward to seeing research which can improve teaching best practices or how we can further utilize technology in order to make better learning spaces for the students.”
The partnership aims to encourage scholars to dig deep into digital learning, which would enable both students and teachers to access information and learning resources conveniently through modern technology.
Prospective faculty candidates will have to propose research topics that revolve around digital learning and future trends in Philippine education. Grantees will be given an entire school year to complete their research, which will then be presented at a colloquium.
In 2017, Globe Telecom partnered with DLS-CSB to introduce Brightspace, a learning management system that enables a personalized approach to education. The system powers the college’s BigSky platform – a cloud-based integrated learning platform meant to create an innovative and inclusive virtual learning space.
Brightspace was created by Globe’s partner D2L to help transform the learning and teaching experience through a digital platform, where students and teachers can access teaching and learning tools using their personal devices.
In the past, Globe has also held a series of workshops under PRISM, a professional development program designed to help Filipino educators in K-12 and higher education, become proficient in technology-enabled instruction and content development.
